1CGS shows off new visual effects for Tank Crew

This week’s developer diary for the IL-2: Great Battles Series introduces new visual effects detailing that is, for now, aimed at improving the visuals for Tank Crew although there are some hints of what this work will do for airplanes as well. Let’s have a look!

More realistic muzzle flashes, rough terrain

The highlights of these updates are on two separate items. First, visualization of rough terrain has been improved and will be added in the 4.504 patch. This should make the ground appear to have more detail and it will affect both aircraft and tanks when landing or driving over this terrain.

Next up, visual effects for the tanks various weapons are being upgraded with more detailed and more realistic muzzle flashes that are based on the muzzle break and power of the gun. This feature will be eventually coming to aircraft as well so this is yet another case of IL-2’s parallel development having benefits intended for one product that then expand out over the rest of the series.

If the images above don’t fully tell the story, this next video will.

Tank Crew cinematics

=HH= Paulk and I have both done trailers for 1CGS’ Tank Crew with slightly different takes to help tell the story of this new addition to the Great Battles Series. Check both of those out!

I’m not sure 1CGS should’ve ventured so far down into the tank combat sim rabbit hole..As it stands right now – Warthunder dominates that market and I can imagine it to be a tough entry.

I hope 1CGS isn’t putting to much money and time into tank combat – while it’s great that it improves the visual aspect from the air of ground combat. It may not pay off in a lucrative way..or atleast not as lucrative advancing there flight sim model further into newer aircrafts/battle grounds. Such as Vietnam or even the Korean war.

As outside observers we’ll likely never really know about the financial success or how it fits into the bigger picture.

That said, War Thunder definitely owns most of this space but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room to compete and Tank Crew is definitely not War Thunder.
