Battle of Normandy’s aircraft set grows by one today with the addition of the Fw190A-6 to the sim. It comes packaged together with yet another impressive patch list that includes everything from AI updates to new visual effects for small bombs and a new 4K texture for the Bf109E-7. Here’s the highlights!
From Fw190A-6 to new effects
The latest iteration of the Fw190 to be added to the series, the A-6, is here and it comes packing with the standard fighter version, the bomber interceptor variant with added armor, and two iterations of the G-3 specialized fighter-bomber version with the 1.56 ATA engine boost and added bomb carrying capabilities.
The Fw190A-6 will be immediately usable in the Bodenplatte single player career mode (and will of course be part of the Normandy career) and has been added to the Wind of Fury scripted campaign as well. So, you’ll be able to get full use of this aircraft right from the start.
According to the patch notes, the aircraft will be added to the 1st and 2nd chapters while flying for III./JG 11, I./JG 26 and II./JG 26. It will also carry on with two AI squadrons: III./KG 51 and NSGr. 20.
New visual effects have been added for smaller 50-100 kg bombs and additional explosion effects are now available for those containing more than 450 kg and less than 1500 kg. Have a look at the new effects here.
In addition to that, Martin =ICDP= Catney has created new 4K external textures for Bf 109E-7 which up the visual appeal for flying that fighter. Excellent!

In addition to all of that, there are countless other smaller changes. For example, AI have been tweaked to better handle different closer rates while on the attack and are now more consistent with forming a landing queue – even among other flights. New truck variations are available that explode (as if carrying HE weaponry) in a more dramatic fashion. Also, numerous corrections and visual improvements have been made to cockpits all across the sim.
