Fans of the IL-2: Great Battles Series will be happy to know that patch 4.062 is out and with it some key new pieces of content and plenty of notes and updates that cover a wide range of features and issues in the sim. Let’s have a look at the highlights!

Here comes the storm!

The Hawker Typhoon has come to the IL-2: Great Battles Series and it is now available for IL-2: Battle of Normandy early access owners. The Typhoon’s early use as an interceptor gradually gave way to become one of the premier fighter-bombers and attack aircraft for the Allied forces and particularly with the squadrons of the 2nd Tactical Air Force, RAF.

I’ve had a quick look at the list of modifications with this aircraft and it’s impressive. I can’t wait to check it all out! The Typhoon has been added to Bodenplatte’s career mode just like other aircraft releases for Normandy so Bodenplatte and Normandy owners will be able to jump straight in. Excellent!

Monoplane Fokker

With the same engine as the Fokker Dr. I but with less drag, the Fokker D.VIII is an interesting counterpart to other aircraft in the Flying Circus Vol 2 aircraft set and will undoubtedly make for a unique silhouette over the battlefield. I look forward to checking out this aircraft as well and putting it through it’s paces!

More new content

Over 20-new vehicles and other assets have come to the sim in preparation for the final release of IL-2: Battle of Normandy (still expected sometime early in 2022). These include the M3A1 half-track, Dodge WC-54 Ambulance, BL 5.5in gun, 40mm Bofors L60 AA gun, 3,7cm Flak 43, and new infantry units with the Bren machine gun. There’s even a new barrage balloon, new search lights, and a variety of new bunkers.

American paratroopers have also been added to the C-47 (even more relevant now that we know that the C-47 will be produced as a flyable), and there are new graphical effects for burning balloons and bullet and shell impacts. There’s also a series of other updates that have been added to the sim.

Responding to questions on the forum, IL-2’s Executive Producer Jason Williams responded with some other information about other objects and vehicles coming later on.

We are missing the boats and a couple tanks and a few more vehicles.

He also answered a question about ships and specifically what kind of larger ship classes we can expect.
