This morning we learned that DCS World stable is going to be getting a patch that will bring it up to version 2.7 and tonight a trailer premier has appeared on YouTube teasing that release. Here’s what we know.
“New free to play program and stable release”
DCS World 2.7 is a significant step forward for DCS World with the most visible change being the total reworking of the clouds system for the sim along with dozens of other enhancements. So far, those updates have been limited to those running on the open beta. Though this is a sizable chunk of the DCS World community (and virtually all of the multiplayer community), there are still many on stable version.
Now, the stable part of the community is going to be jumping on the DCS World 2.7 bandwagon.
I do hope that this comes with some stability enhancements as DCS World 2.7 open beta has not been the most stable recently. I’ve had some nights with good stability and some where the sim crashed five and six times in just a couple of hours. With some hope, this release will solve much of that for everyone on both open beta and on the stable version.
Then, we have a trailer release that is coming tomorrow. This YouTube premier is scheduled for 9:00 am EDT or 1:00 pm GMT and it has a title that appears to be aimed not at DCS regulars but at new customers. I’m sure the trailer will feature the usual cinematic epic of trailer maker Glowing Amraam and that is often enough to draw people in. It’s likely that is all this is, but with a notable premier scheduled it may also mean that Eagle Dynamics is using the moment to announce something new as well. Will it be that or is this just a great moment to advertise DCS to a bigger audience? I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.
