I know many of you have been waiting patiently for news on the DCS: Mosquito so it brings me no greater joy than to report that Eagle Dynamics has released a brand new trailer for the DCS: Mosquito and opened the module up for pre-orders. That’s given us more insight into the module as well as given us all kinds of great new views of the exterior model. Let’s have a look!
All things shiny and bright
I’m a sucker for things that look as good as they can and Eagle Dynamics has, unsurprisingly, delivered on some impressive looking screenshots for their latest DCS WWII aircraft addition. The Mosquito looks every inch the part in these new images. The wait to have the revamp on the exterior model appears to have paid off.
Next, we have the new trailer which premiered around an hour ago. It’s what you’d expect from Eagle Dynamics with a brilliant showcase of the new aircraft featuring plenty of slow pans showing off the detail, fast action moments, and pyrotechnics too. The keen eyed might notice a snow covered landscape that appears to be from DCS: The Channel Map rather than Caucasus (although I think some shots do feature that too).

Pre-order details
With the launch of the pre-order, we also now have a clear description of which features are included in early access. Notably, the early access Mosquito will have the enhanced damage model that Eagle Dynamics has pioneered with their WWII assets. It will also have electrical and fuel system modeling, radios, and propeller feathering features. For armament it will have the standard four Browning .303 machine guns, four Hispano Mark II 20mm cannons, and options for the 250lb and 500lb bombs in the bombbay and on the wing stations.
Early Access Features:
- High-quality external 3D model
- 6 Degree of Freedom fully clickable cockpit with latest visual effects
- Flight Dynamics based on official reports, our own CFD research and pilot feedback
- Full Fuel system and optional external tanks
- Full electrical system
- Full hydraulic and pneumatic system
- Propeller feathering
- Radio units T1154 (transmitter) & R1155 (receiver)
- Support of the new internal structure-based damage model
Early Access Armament:
- 4 British Browning .303 machine guns
- 4 Hispano Mk.II 20mm guns
- 250lbs and 500lbs bombs in the bomb bay and under each wing
There are a few notable pieces missing from this right now. At the moment, no RP-3 rockets are included in the early access release (although I recall there being a note about them coming later).
It’s also not clear to me how detailed the engine modeling is at launch either. Propeller feathering is one feature but heat and operating limits are another set of features that have not always come with early access first release and have usually been added later.
We’ll have to see what state this is in when it does launch, however, the feature-set does look good and you should be able to have a good Mosquito experience right away. More on all of that as it develops!

Bought it and now the wait. Can’t wait to hit the clouds in this thing, looks like it going to be a joy to fly. And hopefully we’ll see the Tse-tse and/or the cookie bomb version in the future.

You’ll see the snow at 0:57 and 1:18. That looks like The Channel and not Caucasus.

Won’t buy it until they fixed at least some bugs of the existing planes. The Anton is a mess right now.

I haven’t flown the Anton in a while now but I do remember seeing some updates on it sometime over the last six months. I may have dreamed it.
Which is most troubling on that module?

I don’t own the Anton, but I do have many others. Maybe I’m guilty of having low expectations, but I don’t own any DCS module that has bugs of such a state that it makes them unenjoyable. I find the P-47 FM annoying, though that is likely me and not a bug.
I’m sure the Mosquito will be a pleasure to fly.

You can try the Anton for yourself in free trial, I strongly suggest that you do so, and see for yourself, there are some weapon issues we are working through that are more related to weapons than the Anton, and some of this has been slightly blown out of proportion. But anyway, you can try the Anton free for 2 weeks, and when the Mossie drops you can do the same there. Thanks!

I was just flying the Anton the other night and had a really good time with it.
Looked over at the SoW bug report and I gotta say, while they are bugs, and they gotta be fixed, they’re also minor.
The truth is all the modules have bugs and inaccuracies, just like every other flight sim addon I can think of.
I look around at the other top tier developers in the other sims, like PMDG, and they’ve got bugs and inaccuracies, too.
Their modules and nearly all of the ones available in DCS are just too well made to worry about a few problems.

I think that’s a healthy way to look at it. There are some issues, they do need to be fixed, but it’s good not to loose sight of the fun that can be had too.

Nice catch on the snow for the Channel map, I saw it but didn’t even think about it. I know they said at one point they would do it, so must be in the pipeline.

Guess I will have to wait longer.
I pre-paid for the Normandy package with the P-51 A/C model.
Who can say when my 8 months pre-purchase investment will deliver?

For IL-2? The P-51B/C will likely be next and most of us are guessing it will come this September. The full package will probably arrive early 2022 – a guess I’ve been making for over a year now. So far I’m on target 😊

Really looking forward to this one as it’s genuinely something new for DCS World.
And even though the re-modeling work was an annoying delay, knowing that it’s now built from actual plans from the Smithsonian(!) makes it just that much more desirable.
Will be a LOT of fun to cruise around on all the maps looking for trouble 😉

You can look at this two ways, the delay was annoying and frustrating, or you can look at it as a nod to the passion and care all the way up to the top of Eagle Dynamics’ willingness to push back a release to have the Mosquito looking it’s absolute best.
Probably 90% of people would have been ok with an earlier release and not as great model, but it should be appreciated that we don’t want to do that, we want it to be the best it can be, and the best we know we can produce. Thanks!

I know I’m glad that the team has taken the extra time to get it right. Many of us are anxious to check it out but I think many of us are also looking for that 10% extra experience and things are looking great so far.

Flying low to target, dodging flak, and dealing damage up close is one of the most fun things you can do in a combat flight sim (and risky in the real world) so I think this will be a hit!

I have way too many DCS modules thanks to those sales and fantastic promotional videos but the Mosquito is an aircraft I just have to have. I am so looking forward to it.

I need trial periods! Looks lovely, but I’ll keep with the jets an’ choppers for DCS and the props with BoX. Need to get up to speed again with the Viper and if i have a few too many drinks I suspect I will buy the Hind.

I think he was talking about the Anton for the free trial, not the Mosquito. We don’t know when the EA is released anyway so it would be premature.
No need for a trial, indeed, we know the final result will be good.
The main question is not what, but when, should they have enough experience to give some indication of the roadmap? It’s interesting to participate to the development of a new, nice aircraft, but it’s not for everyone, some people don’t realize it can take a long time to get completed.

It’s the first time I notice there are only 10 exhaust pipes (5 on each side), for a V12 engine. Did they use the remaining two for some re-heating purpose, or a turbocharger? I thought they were supercharged. Or maybe two exhaust pipes are located elsewhere but I don’t see why.
Interestingly, I’ve seen pictures of a Mosquito with flame dampers to mask the exhaust light for night operations. It was apparently bad for the performances.
I’m excited to see how it will look, and how it will sound 🙂

(some searching showed that 2 pipes may have been merged together to avoid a 6th pipe being too close to the wooden structure, but I have no idea if that’s true, the airflow around the wings should prevent that anyway)
