This weeks’ update from Eagle Dynamics on DCS World development is focused on three key pieces of content – the DCS: AH-64D Apache, the DCS: Mosquito and the DCS: The Channel Map. Here’s the latest!
New detail images of the AH-64D
The DCS: AH-64D Apache project continues to make good progress from what we’ve seen of it recently. The latest images are focused on the exterior of the helicopter and ED reports that the exterior is nearly ready to go. Have a look at the images!
We’ve also learned a little about some of the features. They include the Common Missile Warning System (CMWS) which is a sensor that is visible on the wingtip of the AH-64 and can warn the crew about incoming missiles from both air and surface threats. The countermeasure system can also use the sensor to automatically deploy countermeasures. Very handy!
ED also detailed a feature where the missile pylons can pivot upwards to provide a better loft for the missile. That’s in as part of the features of the helicopter.
Not coming in the initial early access release but planned for a release later is the Fire Control Radar (FCR), which sits on top of the main rotor. This is the system that gives the Longbow Apache it’s reputation as it can lock and guide Hellfire missiles at range even while staying partially concealed. It should be an interesting addition when it comes.
The Channel map gets a discount with Mosquito
Eagle Dynamics are keen to play up the linkages between DCS: Mosquito and the DCS: The Channel Map. They are reporting that the map is close to final state and that anyone who has done the DCS: Mosquito pre-order can now get a 30% special discount through the Eagle Dynamics store. ED also reports that the offer will be available on Steam.
We aren’t exactly sure what final state will be for this map but it sounds like additional seasons are coming with winter making a brief and fleeting appearance in the Mosquito pre-order trailer. Hopefully spring and autumn are on the way too.
The deal is time limited from now until September 9 at 15:00 GMT.
Check out all of this and more news on the DCS World Weekend Update.
I can’t help but think this means The Channel isn’t popular – which is a shame as it’s a beautiful map.
If true, probably related to the fact that Normandy is so physically close…

Right now only Normandy seems to get any kind of regular use online although Growling Sidewinder is talking about a new WWII server of his own and that appears to be using The Channel so maybe things will change.
The map did come out and get lost in all of the other things going on.

That Apache does look good. I’m sure they’re going to go the extra few yards to make the model look as good as possible.

Oh yeah this module is getting every bit as much attention to the 3D model and texture work as their other recent releases. It’ll look impressive for sure!

This will sit with Warthog and Hornet as one of the Crown Jewels – they will do it right.
Probably means a loooooong EA, but I couldn’t care less. Hornet was a fantastic experience from Day One, and I’ve enjoyed it immensely along the way.
Apache will be similar, and I’ll have a ton of fun in it even if it just has rockets and chain gun upon release.
And if it gets borked here and there through EA, Black Shark is always ready to play 🙂

Yeah I would guess that the Early Access period for this will be significantly longer than for some other modules but maybe not quite as long as something like the Hornet. Still, this is a complex aircraft and a couple of years seems possible.
Black Shark is always on standby…especially with the new one also coming out!

Oh!! Can’t wait for The Apache. Don’t care about long EA but hope they release Q4 early 🙂 Want to give some rest to Longbow 2 3DFX
