Three focus areas for the latest DCS World developer update focus in on the final stages of work on the DCS: The Channel Map as well as some new details on the DCS: AH-64D and on the S-200. Let’s have a look!
AH-64D updates

The focus of this latest update is on the Integrated Helmet and Display Sighting System or IHADSS. This is a system that the pilot or co-pilot/gunner to slave the 30mm gun on the AH-64D to their helmet and head position using that to aim the gun along their line of sight. IHADSS also provides other kinds of flight information as well.
The IHADSS system combines with the Modernised Pilot Night Vision System or MPNVS to provide IR vision letting the pilot and gunner see in the dark. Check out the sneak peek to see just a bit of the system in action.
The Channel updates
DCS: The Channel map is pushing on towards final release and the finished version of the map is going to include some extra details. Minimum and maximum temperature sets for the different seasons have been adjusted, and a snow-covered winter season has been confirmed.
At this point, separate spring and autumn seasons have not been but I’d like to throw those on the pile for consideration at some future point. Who wouldn’t want to cruise along the white cliffs of Dover and appreciate the beautiful leaves as they turn bright colours.
There are also over a dozen points of interest receiving a custom treatment. They are:
- All St. Birchington
- Belfry Of Dunkirk & St. Eloi Church
- Church of St Laurence Ramsgate
- Church of St Mary and Eanswythe
- Citadelle d’Arras
- Dover Town Hall
- Fort d’Ambaleteuse
- Graveyard near Amien Prison
- Hastings pier
- Mairie de Dunkerque
- St Augustine’s Abbey Ramsgate
- Church St Leonard
- Church St Mary
- Church St Mary the Virgin Ashford
- Cathedral St Omer
The S-200 and other updates
A new air defense unit is coming to DCS World in a future update. The S-200 or SA-5 “Gammon” is being put together to offer a new SAM system to challenge us in the future. It’s being based on the Syrian Army version of the system and will feature the 5V28 missile, the ‘Square Pair’ tracking and guidance radar, and ST-68U search radar.
Also on display today was a short clip showing off the new gun splash effects. This is a really nice update as the splashes have been overdone for many types of guns for a long time now with .303 machine guns spraying up as much water as GSh-23mm cannons and so forth. The new effect looks more reasonable!
Check out all of this and more on the DCS World Weekend News update.
I didn’t see the gun splash video before, nice! And the Apache continues to look very cool.
Might be a fun week if we get the Mosquito and an update with the Channel map changes.
