Team Fusion almost ready to talk about VR in IL-2 Cliffs of Dover series

In most of the articles I’ve written about the Cliffs of Dover series in the last year, more than one person has come into the comments area and asked if I knew when VR might be coming. We knew it was coming but the when was always a question but it seems like Team Fusion Simulations has turned the corner because they are starting to talk more about it.

Get ready for VR?

In a tweet today, Team Fusion Simulations mentioned that a status update will be forthcoming with news on VR.

I’m actually not sure what the feature is but we can clearly see a split screen display on a monitor giving us an indication of the VR system working. An HP Reverb headset is also visible. What do you see?

Stay tuned for more information as this develops!

UPDATE:

A statement from Team Fusion Simulations is clarifying their initial comments and giving us a little more detail as to what is coming.

Just to be clear, as it appears some community members believe VR will launch this weekend. Apologies for any confusion. The update is it to let everyone know our VR progress. It is coming along well. In fact very well.We are not at Beta yet, and will announce the when the time comes.Enjoying the theories around the pic. Some are close On the weekend, we will show a quick video from that pic.

Then players will get a good look.

    I see a VR headset that I cannot afford…

All power to their elbow! I have never bought this as I have no TrackIR but certainly will when I can fly using my Oculus.

I couldn’t care less about VR implementation, especially now when 3080 are out of stock.

But I cannot wait for TrueSky implementation, the needed and required addition, especially to Cliffs Of Dover…

I’d expect Cliffs of Dover to be less demanding in VR, but we won’t know until it releases.

I will be buying on the release of VR. I hope there will also be simshaker support at the time or release (or shortly after) if this is not being too greedy!

The cockpits and the flight modellling were CloD’s greatest strengths I think but I had dropped it in favour of VR with DCS and IL-2. If the VR implementation is done well with good performance then there will be something of a resurgeance of what used to be the ground breaking combat simulation of it’s time.

Man on earth did they phrase that announcement in a misleading manner for modern day gamer colloquialisms. Half the VR-expectant playerbase read “the game is getting VR support in the update being released this weekend”.

That said, it’s good news and I’m curious to see what they’ve got to show us. I already own the title and would surely love to finally see it in VR.

It was either poorly or disingenuously worded, I agree.

I don’t think it was intentionally done but I agree that it was confusing. I know a few people who were all set for Cliffs of Dover VR by weekend and I had to read it back a few times to understand that it was an update on what they are doing with the feature and not an update as in a patch with the feature.

        Easy mistake to make.

Well, they announced that when Beta testing happens they’ll make an announcement, so the Beta announcement would have to come first before VR is released.

Or at the very least an announcement that there’s going to be a beta announcement. 🙂

Thanks for the update Shamrock. As a VR only flyer, I’ve been eagerly waiting for implementation to COD for years. Thing is, I have no idea if I should be excited by this announcement or not. Honestly, I’m just not bright enough to even understand what it is they are communicating here. Are they being clever and coded in some way, or am I just not understanding what they are saying..?
    No idea haha

I think we have an announcement of an announcement at the moment. The good news is that VR seems to be getting closer… but there was some initial questioning on if this was THE release which I’m told it is not.

      Progress though! We’re getting there.

Like so many others here, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the VR implementation.

I already own Cliffs of Dover and if they get the VR part right, I’ll be flying over Africa in no time.

Oh, and the wording of that announcement was indeed confusing.

Any news on CloD VR? It was announced vigorously some months ago, but since then just silence around the topic. Does anyone have news? any progress or potential release?
    Thanks!!

VR is supposed to come as part of their Visual Update package which will also include TrueSky, 4K skins, tessellation, cockpits, etc.

Been delayed because of numerous factors but they’re shooting for a Q2 2022 release.
