DCS: AH-64D 30mm chain gun video

A short new video for the DCS: AH-64D is out and it’s focused entirely on the M230 30mm chain gun. Let’s have a look.

Animation, detail, effect

The new video seems to be showing off a few key components of the weapon. This isn’t a tutorial video but rather a bit of a feature showcase. On display? The animation is one thing that struck me as being particularly detailed as the weapon swivels around and points at different targets. Then there’s the sound which, they say is work in progress, but is already aurally impressive. Then there’s the visual effect of the weapon being fired and then hitting various targets within DCS.

There’s a lot of imagery from the FLIR camera in the video as well and I can’t help but wonder if some of the enhancements to FLIR are on display as well with this video. At the very least, it looks sharp and readable with vehicles standing out well against other objects.

    That’s a killer video. You want someone to part with their hard earned cash, that’s a great pitch.

    I think it will be impossible not to buy the Apache. Too much cool to ignore.

    That’s pretty convincing. Having been on maneuvers with Apaches during my mandatory service I can attest it’s quite an unnerving sight to have one suddenly hover over you with the gun tracking as the pilot’s head turns his head to you. Especially when you see what they do to their targets a few seconds later.
