New spectacular DCS: South Atlantic trailer previews new map

RAZBAM has long been at work on their DCS: South Atlantic theatre project with one key component being the map. Today, an exciting new trailer has been released showcasing the map in a way that we’ve never seen before – and it looks incredible!

Scenic vistas for your DCS flying

With detailed airports, stunning scenic vistas, and towering mountains, DCS South Atlantic has evolved from a map that was mostly focused on the Falkland Islands into something a little more impressive over the last few years.

Earlier this year, RAZBAM released an updated map showing the impressive increase in size to include a good chunk of the southern part of South America. RAZBAM CEO Ron Zambrano reports that the map will be 1,800,000 kms2.

That was then but now, we’re seeing our first video clips of the map in development. It’s done in that great tradition of the cinematic trailer that is clearly inspired by the works of Glowing Amraam. And it looks great! The trailer also features a good amount of AV-8B, M-2000C and other DCS World aircraft. An F-15E Strike Eagle also appears although it’s unclear if its the Eagle Dynamics model or the one that RAZBAM is working on.

Release coming soon?

The trailer is titled as a ‘teaser’ which suggests to me a change in tone from the previous development images to something more serious and calculated. Hopefully this indicates that the map is now in the final stages of early access development and is coming soon to a DCS World install near you!

    I thought it was interesting that there was some radio chatter at the airport. It was probably just included to give some flavor to the video, but I’m hopeful that it means there’s some kind of ATC improvement on this map, or to DCS as a whole.

      That was a straight up IRL recording, so don’t get your hopes up 😉

      They overlay fake radio traffic in all their videos, 3rd party or not. This is nothing new. Plus the ATC audio in the video is actually commercial GTC/CD/TPC from LEMD.

        Yep, agreed that this isn’t a tease for a better ATC system. This is just some added sfx to give it a bit of flavour.

    The trailer looks really promising indeed.

    Personally, I always welcome any new maps to DCS. It would be a really nice surprise if this map would come to DCS World soon. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

    If good performance is a viable option, that would be my new go-to map. Love the snowy mountains. “Southern Rockies”.

    Day one purchase for sure.

      Performance will be a concern but it’ll be interesting to see how they put this together. It may run perfectly fine.

        The video itself has performance/frame-rate issues. Kinda a big tell.

        It’s the same with the Channel map and it’s reveal trailer.

        I don’t think the video can be used as an indicator for performance unless we know what it was captured on.

    Have been following development eagerly – very much looking forward to this map!

    One of the first (modern) maps where there’s been an actual peer-level “war”. Will be cool to see all the re-creations of the conflict, and new interpretations thereof.

    Lots of interesting What If? scenarios present themselves, too. I particularly hope the SE corner of Chile/Argentina has high ground mesh detail – those “fjords” could be a LOT of fun for all types of missions/campaigns.

      It’s going to be an interesting map as its been created as a contemporary 2020ish era map but I suppose enough has stayed the same to make it a viable option for the Falklands war.

      Argentina has just signed a contract to purchase JF-17’s so a hypothetical contemporary conflict with Typhoons and Thunders is also something that someone could script. Even without the real world element I’m sure folks could come up with all sorts of ways to use the map.

        Not that it matters for mission-builders. Also, an pretend it’s the North Cape and the Kuzenetsov is out on the prowl with a Russian carrier battle group

        It’s like a ‘will they, won’t they’ romance apparently. Late in August I had read that the deal was done. Now it’s not done. Well… I guess its good enough for hypothetical scenarios.

        Russian or Chinese aircraft carriers operating in the area could easily be done too.

    Given the orientation and proximity to an island, this is the closest we’re going to get to a Vietnam map any time soon… Hoping for a “tropical” layer like that old Caucuses re-skin hahaha
