If you play single player IL-2 Great Battles (and I know a lot of you do), this patch should be a big boost to your enjoyment of the series as the new Advanced Quick Mission generator makes its big debut. The patch also introduces the biggest bomber of the Flying Circus series to-date in the form of the Breguet XIV.B2. Not too shabby! Let’s have a look!
Patch is out
The big feature here is of course the new AQM. The generator is based on the original Campaign system that came with Battle of Stalingrad and that was replaced when Battle of Kuban came out. This system made for a poor career or campaign as it offered no progression, however, the missions it generated were generally good. The 1CGS team have taken it a step further with more features and capabilities.
Moscow, Stalingrad, Kuban and Rhineland maps can all take advantage of the AQM and it comes with a mammoth list of possible missions you can choose from:
- Intercept bombers;
- Intercept ground attack planes;
- Intercept transport planes;
- Escort bombers;
- Escort ground attack planes;
- Column attack;
- Artillery position attack;
- Train attack;
- Airfield attack;
- Anti-shipping attack;
- Ground troops support;
- Ships support;
- Ships cover;
- Cargo delivery;
- Cargo paradrop;
- Special mission squad paradrop;
- Artillery position bombing strike;
- Railway station bombing strike;
- Airfield bombing strike;
- Supply dump bombing strike;
- Bridge bombing strike;
Flying Circus is not yet included in the AQM because the team is going to build AQM features into the updated Arras Sector map as well as the new Verdun Sector map. When those become available, I would expect that we’ll see AQM supporting those as well.
The other big feature of course is the new Breguet XIV.B2. With a maximum bombload of 360kg, this aircraft is capable of hauling more bombs to target than any other aircraft in Flying Circus so far and that should make it very interesting to fly. It’s also reasonably fast despite its armament capacity. I’ll be looking to fly and review this bomber soon!
Other features that have seen notable updates include projectile tracers seeing their brightness increased slightly. A-20 and B-25 bombers, when set to US as their nation type, will have new the more historically correct pilot models (including body armor and helmet). There’s also improved detailing of Fw 190 A3/A5/A6/A8 cockpits by Oyster_KAI.
Yaaaaaay! One two bossss!

Hmm am I missing something. Where is the advanced quick mission builder located? I don’t see option for this in my main menu, and I have updated already.

It’s part of the quick mission builder. Go in there and click on the icons for AQM.

Must say that i had hoped there woud be more tweaking the settings in the aqm, more like the mission maker by vanders. But its just first editon lots can still happen 😄

I have to agree. I only played with it for a little bit, but looks like I can’t choose which enemy planes I would be flying against?
Also is it just me or does the game seem to be moving at a faster speed now? Almost like at 1.15x… time compression seems different too now. Much more sped up at 8x

I think that’s kind of the point of the system. It’s a blurring of what you would get with the Career mode. You choose the mission type and the rest of the decisions are selected using available squadron/theatre information.
The exact composition of the enemy forces is therefore part of the fog of war. And that makes it both quick to start but also potentially interesting or surprising.

Hey Shamrock, have you tried out the AQM yet?
I’m not at the place where I normally play flight sims and am unable to hook up a Joystick to my laptop so I have to wait until December before I can try it out.
Can’t wait for someone to post a video about it.
