VR closed beta coming to Desert Wings Tobruk!

Several of you just sat up in your seats. For everyone who has been hoping for VR functionality coming to IL-2 Sturmovik: Desert Wings – Tobruk, there is encouraging news as Team Fusion Simulations has announced a closed beta to test the VR functionality for their sim. Let’s have a look!

Beta test to iron out the kinks

VR is a tough feature to bring to any game but most other flight sims on the market are now VR capable and Team Fusion Simulations has worked long and hard to bring the feature to Cliffs of Dover/Desert Wings – Tobruk. It’s been a long road but they are nearing their destination and they are looking for some beta testers to help them to cross over the final kilometers.

Starting in a few weeks time, Team Fusion are creating a private, password protected Steam beta for VR users to test. To help find the right testers, Team Fusion are looking to ensure that applicants meet the following criteria:

  • Must own both BLITZ and TOBRUK  (Beta will incorporate both games… anyone who doesn’t have TOBRUK will not be able to use the Beta)
  • Must own an up to date/fully supported VR headset
  • A .jpg or other visual record of the player’s VR headset, serial number, manufacturer and model will be required to be submitted with an application.  We need this to determine if there are any issues with particular types of VR hardware.
  • Application received by February 15th 2022 latest

There need ago be an edit button. The hilarious thing is, I pre-order the original Cliffs of Dover, but ended up never playing it on release because of all the issues.

If this works, it will likely be the first time I actually play through CloD in any meaningful way…

I literally did that when I saw your title haha. As a flight sim enthusiast who could never go back to 2D, this is one I’ve been waiting on for a while.
    Exciting times.

I’m glad it’s coming along but I won’t buy Tobruk until I’ve experienced the VR in Cliffs of Dover.
