Bringing the thunder with DCS: AH-64D’s launch and trailer!

Today, Eagle Dynamics has launched the DCS: AH-64D with plenty of fanfare and excitement around the community. Get your DCS World updater going now and check out the launch of this exciting new module.

Thunder time!

Let’s start with the launcher trailer. Glowing Amraam knocks another incredible trailer out of the park set to the tune of AC/DC’s Thunderstruck. It seems fitting as the trailer shows off the AH-64 in all of its glory!

The release of DCS: AH-64D comes with the latest DCS Open Beta patch which includes the new helicopter (for owners of the helicopter) along with an immense list of changes and updates including a new FLIR rendering system for the AH-64D, F-16C, F/A-18C, and A-10C/A-10C II.

The launch has been hotly anticipated for months as development was delayed due to a number of factors. Now, it’s out and we’re able to experience it for ourselves! I can’t wait.

Live vicariously

While you’re downloading the new module or not sure if the new helicopter is for you, there’s already plenty of content out there to watch. Several DCS content creators are already producing content for the helicopter module so here are just some of the videos that you may want to check out. Enjoy!

I was waiting for you to jump into the update. 🙂

I ended up buying the Apache this morning. I’m so weak. It was Wags’ video about George that sold me. He made it look like I might actually be able to play with the night vision and the gun while George flies. But for the moment I have absolutely no idea how to handle this thing. I have my laptop beside my PC and I’m going to start climbing the Mt. Everest of learning curves.

Hope you do a map review. I’d enjoy reading that.

      Busy day!

That George AI is making this potentially more accessible is very exciting and encouraging to me. Should be fun to dig into it!

I watched a Grim Reapers AH-64 for Dummies video and it was great. Have the guns going no problem. But Cap says no more tutorials from him. I think he was told by the UK top secret people people not to do it. That’s the ten-cent rumour anyway.

        What a world.

Thanks Shamrock. ED sure knows how to produce a solid trailer, like the others before it I thought it was well done.
I tried the Apache a bit last night and so far I’d have to say this is a solid module. The VR experience is amazing on my high end PC although I’ve heard some lower spec machines are struggling. I’m sure that will be improved with further development.

My main goal right now is to figure out the force trim. It is implemented quite different than the other ED helos and there seems to be some confusion there with others on their forum.

Sounds fantastic! I still haven’t had any time to check it out but I hope to this weekend. I have heard that trim is a source of confusion… it’ll be interesting to see how this works.

I was having a terrible time with the trim but in the end it’s a one button fix for the most part. As soon as you are in the flightpath you like, click “Force Trim Up”, and it holds your attitude. There are other choices, but that one is gold. Makes for a very smooth flight.

And the night vision in this thing is da bomb! Very clean and clear, very cool.

I’d rather ladle diahorrea into my eye sockets than hear Cap speak anymore. Well done ED on a fantastic EA launch. Well worth the wait.
