IndiaFoxtEcho offers DCS: MB-339 Dev Update

It’s been quiet for a little while on the DCS: MB-339 front but thanks to a new update we now have a great sense of where the project is and what IndiaFoxtEcho are doing to bring it to DCS World. Let’s have a look!

Aiming for a complete release

The latest update from IndiaFoxtEcho focuses in on remaining items that the team want to tackle before releasing the MB-339. Their goal, as stated, is to “release a complete and quality module as of Day 1.”

According to their update, they have been uncompromising when it comes to details of the simulation and they report by their own estimation to have achieved 95% fidelity compared to the real aircraft. I’m not sure how its measured but the message is clear that the developers intend for this to be a detailed release. A lot of their efforts are aimed at the CDU which plays a key role in the navigation system. They have also received feedback from the Eagle Dynamics team which are reportedly improving aspects they had previously left out and have discovered some difficult to find bugs.

Also offered is a checklist based on the aircraft’s array of systems. Items marked in green on the checklist are complete while a handful of items are still marked in yellow. Those items are the sequential ejection system, Flight Director System (FDS), and Rear View Mirrors.

As this is IndiaFoxtEcho’s first DCS module, its clear that they are still coming to grips with the details of this simulators systems and that a complex project like this can take time to sort out. I continually applaud their upfront approach and transparency to the work they are doing and the challenges they face.

The update also notes that some of the default skins have been adjusted. There’s an upside and a downside to this. The downside is that we’ll be loosing some symbols for units and tail logos as they have been trademarked by the Italian Air Force. Default national markings appear to be fine but specific unit logos appear to be the sticking point. The upside is that IndiaFoxtEcho are in talks to become an official partner with the Italian Air Force which will no doubt help with this and with future projects.

    That’s a long road, brother.

“Rear view mirrors”. I thought that was funny.
