Great Battles series launches two significant features in the latest 4.707 version of the IL-2 series. Packed in this new update is the release of the Me410 for IL-2: Battle of Normandy along with a new Custom Input Profile across the whole of the series. Let’s have a look!
Me410, custom profiles
The first big update in 4.707 is the launch of the last flyable airplane for the IL-2: Battle of Normandy series. The Messerschmidt Me410 is a twin engine, multi-role fighter that saw service in 1943, 1944 and sparingly after that. Although it was overshadowed by its predecessor, the Bf110, the Me410 nonetheless brings some very interesting features such as its unique rear turret gunner position, its integrated bomb bay with swappable bomb and gun pods including the massive BK-5 cannon firing a 50mm anti-aircraft gun meant to destroy bombers.
I’m looking forward to spending some time with this unique and interesting aircraft. It’s so rarely featured in other WWII sims so having it is a rare opportunity.

The other headline features is the addition of Custom Input Profiles. This does two things, first it let’s you create custom profiles of hardware inputs which can be used globally or assigned to a specific airplane. It can also do the same thing with custom pit inputs. If you find a particular airplane is not flying right with your controllers, you can now create a pitch profile specific to that plane. This is particularly valuable to airplanes like the Fokker Dr. I which did not have the sprung sticks that we typically have sitting on our desks.

I really hope the Cliffs of Dover aren’t the/nowhere near the final version as those look like they need a lot more work.
In just 120 hours, approx. I’ll be flying the Me-410!!!

After some sleuthing (I asked someone else :)), I have learned that those are not the cliffs at Dover but the cliffs at Étretat. I think it looks decent enough. IL-2’s terrain engine isn’t able to do much more I suspect.
Me410 is super good!

Did not know about the internally-mounted armoured glass. But I cannot see out the lower front window?

The between-the-legs-window has a bent piece of armor in it along with the big plate of armored glass if you install that option. I believe it is viewable otherwise, especially when you mount bombs and the bendable gauge cluster is moved out of the way (I wish there was a key/animation for that).
