Carenado announces PA-28 Archer II plus PC-12 updates

A couple of updates are coming out from the folks at Carenado. First, they have made an announcement that they are doing a PA-28 Archer II for Microsoft Flight Simulator. They have unleashed a ton of screenshots so check for those below. They have also made some updates to their PC-12 but does it solve the big issue with it? Let’s check it out.

Archer II surprise

According to Carenado, they weren’t initially planning on resurrecting their PA-28 Archer II from past flight sims but after numerous requests have decided to bring it to life in Microsoft Flight Simulator. Those of you keeping score may remember that Carenado has previously released a PA-28R Arrow III but the people want what they want and the Archer II is another popular version of the PA-28. So, that’s what Carenado is doing.

Official feature list isn’t out but it looks like it will come packaged with the full Carenado treatment including a tablet to control certain functionality including the placement of static elements and a ground power unit.

They have released a ton of screenshots so you can get a good look at this airplane!

This aircraft is still a work in progress. If Carenado follows through the way they normally do, this will probably be released in a matter of weeks.

PC-12 updated

Carenado released their rendition of the Pilatus PC-12 back in September. Visually spectacular and packed with a good number of features, early reviews did indicate some pressing problems with the airplane. Electrical systems modeling, too much thrust at idle, avionics gremlins, and a particularly nasty memory leak with the Avidyne custom avionics were among the top issues.

Version 1.1 is now out according to Carenado which appears to solve some of these issues.

Here’s the change log:

  • Fixed bug that causes battery draining.
  • Fixed weight and balance default loading configuration.
  • Fixed GPS approach capability with GP using GTNxi.
  • Fixed fuel pumps initial condition.
  • Improved IAS indication, corrected for temperature.
  • Improved electrical system logic.
  • Improved FPS performance.
  • Implemented new EHSI display features.
  • Implemented fully functional GPU.
  • Other minor bug fixes.

Unfortunately, it seems that the engine modeling and performance issues remain if the comments section on the Carenado Facebook is any indication. Hopefully they can root out that issue and solve it soon.

I uninstalled the PC-12 after I realized it was a bigger fps hit than ANY of my addons in ANY sim (basically cut it in HALF).
…like, so bad that the PMDG 737 easily outperforms it.
I just went back to the TBM + mod, and it looks like that’s where I’ll stay.

    “Thanks”, Carenado.

It’s really disappointing and I’m a bit surprised that the issue hasn’t been tackled yet.
