DCS: F/A-18C Hornet pilot upgrade in progress and other DCS news tidbits

It’s a bit of a slower week this week after last weeks big one featuring the long awaited multi-threading upgrade for DCS World. This week we’ve got the already announced sale, a few comments from Eagle Dynamics on multi-threading, and some images of the Hornet’s pilot upgrade.

Hornet pilot upgrade

Following some of the recent improvements to pilot modeling techniques, Eagle Dynamics is going back to the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet and improving both the visuals and the animations for the pilot. The report from today is that the model’s improved animations will improve gestures and idle poses which have all improved to be more natural. There’s also a new ejection animation.

This pilot model will also be integrated into the new first person view model as well which is highly preferred by VR users.

Eagle Dynamics also report that the Hind pilots will get the same kind of upgrade treatment once the Hornet is complete.

Multi-threading update

Eagle Dynamics haven’t said what exactly is coming next but multi-threading but they did draw attention to last week’s patch which has almost universally been praised as a performance raising upgrade. It isn’t perfect and a number of issues need to be solved but Eagle Dynamics are thanking the community for reporting on the issues.

They also took the opportunity to remind us about the Multithreading FAQ which is available here.

My experiences and that of most around the community have been outstanding on the whole.

Sinai map update

DCS YouTuber Spudknocker has posted a new video talking development updates with OnReTech and the DCS: Sinai map. We don’t learn much or see anything new but we do get some reassurance about the progress being made. It is cool to see ships transiting the Suez canal – a reminder of this key transport hub and geopolitical flashpoint for all kinds of hypothetical scenarios for DCS World.

RAZBAM F-15E visuals

We have a new screenshot of the F-15E from RAZBAM CEO Ron Zambrano with a striking water scene with some beautiful orange light and afterburners to help make it look altogether impressive.

There are also images from RAZBAM visual artist Metal2Mesh on Twitter featuring the pilot model of the F-15E.

And lighting for aerial refuelling operations at night…

And this really cool animation that shows off the radar in operation. The animation won’t be shown most of the time (in a normal state with the nosecone on) but this does ensure that a blown off nose cone and destroyed radar will freeze in its last known mechanical orientation. Super cool!

Small open beta update

A small open beta update went out today as well. DCS Open Beta contains a small number of fixes including some crash fixes, resolved screen brightness issues on some modules, RWR issues on the AH-64, and more all listed here.

The sale is still ongoing

And of course if you missed the earlier post about it, Eagle Dynamics is running a sale for the majority of the DCS World line-up. Most items are 50% off with 30% discount for some of the higher profile models.

For the complete list of sale items, check it out on the DCS World Weekend News update.

In the update it said: “MT. Created a special MT mission uploading mode decreases mission opening time.”

I guess this is automatic and not an option to turn on?

Very likely. Yes. I haven’t heard either way.
