Coming in a little late on this but nonetheless its worth reporting that the latest and highly anticipated update for DCS World has also been delayed in addition to the delay for the CH-47F. The update, sans the new helicopter, was also intended to bring the new launcher, Baltic Dragon’s The Gamblers campaign and the DCS: Afghanistan map. What do we know about the latest update delay? We have a little to go on.
Next update still coming, but delayed
A significant update to any sim is always hotly anticipated and there’s invariably going to be some disappointment when an update doesn’t arrive on time. Over the last couple of days there’s been the news that the DCS: CH-47F module was being delayed while issues with the module were sorted out. It seems now too that the update that also comes packaged with the new launcher and the new Afghanistan map are delayed too.
Here’s what we know from Eagle Dynamics.
Dear All,
We regret to inform you that additional time is required to thoroughly test the recent fixes, necessitating another delay. We will communicate the new patch date as soon as the tasks are completed.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
That was followed by plenty of discussion and an update from Matt Wagner on the DCS World Discord group.
Dear all, our release dates are best estimated based on the scope of work, timelines, and adhering as much as possible to a set schedule. These can never be an exact science as it’s heavily influenced by the results of testing both internally and externally. Given the massive nature of DCS and multiple 1st and 3rd party projects involved, it’s always possible that a stopper bug(s) will be discovered shortly before a planned release. This is such a case, twice. We can either release with the stopper bug(s) or delay to address them. Clearly we have chosen the latter and taken it on the chin. We understand that many of you are deeply upset by the delays of this massive update (perhaps the single biggest update in DCS), but we kindly ask for your patience as we sort the stoppers out.
Stopper bugs is a short for “showstopper” bugs or in other words bugs that seriously or significantly inhibit the normal use of the software. We definitely don’t want to deal with those on a release patch to the general public especially if it means that an important feature stops working or something gets in the way of stuff that was working before.
Whatever the case, we’ll be waiting a little bit longer for the new launcher, The Gamblers and DCS: Afghanistan, and the other items that we expect to see in DCS World updates. Stay tuned for more!
Update: Slipped my mind that Flaming Cliffs 2024 is also due in this update!
