We’ve got a new DCS World Weekend News report coming in and this one has some interesting stuff in it if you’ve been waiting all year for news about their full fidelity MiG-29 project. The aircraft is reportedly coming in Quarter 2 of 2025. There’s screenshots and details so let’s have a look!

Fulcrum coming soon

The MiG-29 needs little introduction with this Russian designed and built aircraft serving in multiple countries in the 1980s through to the modern day. The jet still manages to occasionally make aviation headlines such is its impact. Eagle Dynamics confirmed to us about 12-months ago that the DCS: MiG-29 was coming after years of rumours.

Eagle Dynamics has been working on the exterior model, the avionics, cockpit, and aircraft systems over the last several months. They also report that the aircraft is the first of their aircraft developments that has been created while making use of photogrammetry – scanning a real world aircraft to get the exact measurements and details.

We generated a huge number of photos and videos of the aircraft, and we completely reworked the external model. Based on this reference data and factory diagrams, we were able to include an exceptional level of detail for items such as surface materials and treatment, rivets, screws, and panel joints. The new normal map reflects the structure of the aircraft skin to a high degree of accuracy, with texture resolution increased by 400%.

Systems in progress include the optical laser system, IRST, air-to-air targeting modes, the gunsight (which they say was not a trivial task), ground attack sighting with wind correction, recreated the fire control radar, and work on the SPO-15LM RWR as well. They talk a bit about the challenges and goals with the rework:

The SPO-15LM radar warning receiver, also known as Product L006LM, has been completely rewritten. The new SPO-15 uses the same physics-based approach as the SPO-10, but with greater attention being paid to its second iteration of directivity patterns for transmitting and receiving antennas. The latter being of particularly high importance to Soviet RWR designs due to the independent processing of an output from each azimuth sector antenna. Additionally, the database has been expanded, with each radar having a unique signature in terms of signal properties and with the properties themselves covering additional details.

They are also underway with the INS and IFF. Notably, the IFF system will be a work in progress at launch and continue to work in additional features later on. This is not unlike many DCS World products at this point and is unsurprising.

Together with the lengthy status update, which you can read here, we’ve also got a ton of screenshots. I grabbed and am displaying just some of the shots that are on display. Here we can see the more accurate and detailed cockpit lighting, cockpit textures, exterior model, and lighting on display. Check out the rest of the screenshots here!

  1. Very impressive screen shots. I hope the FM and avionics develop in similar fidelity. I’m glad to have some a red plane incoming.

    1. MiG-29 in Flaming Cliffs already has the top level PFM flight model. Reportedly they will make a few tweaks but it’s already at a level that puts it far above the stuff we see in a sim like MSFS.

It is good to see the MiG-29 come. It’s a “red plane” for sure but its recent history puts it in quite a few different scenarios and categories which perhaps broadens the appeal for simmers.

      1. Exactly right, the plane can be flown for just about any East European country that was under Russian occupation all those years, I think it’s a great choice.

I’ve also always loved the look of the ’29, and if I feel like a quick mission, I’ll often choose it just because I like how it looks. When considering 4th gen planes, it’s only second to the F-16 for beauty in design – to my eyes.

  2. That’s a great looking cockpit! This should be a fun plane. Bummer about the long wait though.

    1. Haven’t heard anything about them recently. Or in quite some time actually.

  5. Always dreamed for More REDFOR Aircraft!!! this is great to see, But as I’m a realist and ED’s history I am going to go out on a limb and Predict this will not come in Q2 25 but rather early 26. Will be happy to be proven wrong (WILL SCREAM FROM THE ROOF TOPS I WAS WRONG) but I have gotten quite good at predicting this Sadly so I doubt I’m wrong about this.

  7. One day hopefully we will get a full fidelity version of the Su-27S (Flanker-B). I doubt that that will be Eagle Dynamics subsequent aircraft after their MiG-29A, but maybe one day by the 2030s, right?

    1. It’s possible. We’ll be waiting for a bit as you say.

    2. I would love a Frogfoot. Considering it’s still in service and fun for CAS. If we have a Hind, I don’t see wht we can’t have a froggy.

  8. I wish we had a prepurchase option now of DCS Mig29.

I do not like to check release dates and stuff all the time. Just prepurchase and when it´s released it is released. That way I automatically receive it.
