I thought it was important to make note of an information release coming from the Microsoft Flight Simulator team announcing that their efforts have turned to Sim Update 3. Let’s see what they are already planning with that.
The work continues
Sim Update 2, newly out of beta and released to all, is barely 24-hours old and we’re already getting word that testing on the next update is underway. This is a very good thing to hear and I think its a smart move on Microsoft’s part to show that the work is continuing.
Sim Update 2’s change log was a gargantuan read needing its own table of contents just to break everything down into its constituent parts. Getting the sim into shape and moving beyond the sim’s challenging release was a much needed thing and Sim Update 2 definitely helps move the needle on that.
After I’ve had enough time with the new update, I’ll be sure to write my thoughts on where were at and if its time to buy in. Meanwhile, Sim Update 3 beta is underway with changes tackling content, stability, performance, general bug fixes, core feature fixes, scenery updates, LOD improvements to various objects, and aircraft specific fixes is already available to test.
Beta testing is available to users who want to be involved in the process. It’s clearly having an effect and helping the sim develop. On the other hand, staying clear of the beta for those more adverse to sim reliability is not a bad idea either. Either way, checking out the latest change log for Sim Update 3 beta tells us what direction we’re going in. I think it’s a good one!
