New year and new updates incoming from Red Star Simulations and their DCS: MiG-17F project. We don’t learn a lot about the project from this new video but we do get to see it in action. Let’s check it out!

In action

Keeping alive a tradition of Red Star Simulations has kept for several years now producing and providing some kind of update on or around the new year, this year we’ve got the above trailer showing the MiG-17F in action. The aircraft is showing with working systems, gunsight, guns, rockets and bombs, there are a few different liveries, and it does look like things are coming together.

The team are doing a MiG-17F for DCS complete with its twin NR-23 and one N-37 cannon, SPO-2 Sirena 2 RWR, the world’s first afterburning jet engine (Klimov VK-1F), and the Egyptian configured modification that includes 76mm ‘Sakr’ rockets as well as more typical fuselage racks for fuel tanks and bombs.

While it very much looks like a MiG-15, this MiG-17 is going to sport some different features.

The team are tight lipped this year saying only the following the video description:

Kicking off this new year with this video and setting the tone for what’s ahead. More details to come.

Looking forward to more details to come. From what we can see, it seems like this project is reaching finishing stages though we don’t know exactly what is left on the development line. Clearly, its flying and fighting in DCS World which is a great sign.

  1. Though it seems very similar to the Mig-15, which I really enjoy, I’m pretty sure I’ll grab this. I like the old Russian stuff. Would love to get the Mig-19, but alas…

Think of the MiG-15 as a far better designed MiG-9 and the MiG-17 as the ultimate expression of the concept. MiG-19 took them in new directions.

  2. the thing I really like about these guys is their intent focus on flight model.

this should be a great module for anyone who loves to fly!

and you never know, it’s not too far a step from the MiG-17 to a new MiG-19!
