Some of you have been asking for more gameplay videos and we’re starting to see a little bit more of that thanks to the release two new short videos helping detail some features coming for IL-2 Series Korea. There’s also a new summary of key points discussed during a recent Discord event that you’ve also been asking for. So let’s have a look!

More details and a video on IL-2 Korea’s HUD

Its not exactly a “HUD” in the traditional aviation sense but it does generally and broadly describe the functionality of IL-2 Series Korea’s new in-flight interface. The system draws on past efforts while adding more customizability for what you want to have displayed.

I can see some turning these features off entirely while others will find them intensely useful either for gameplay or even for performance verification and testing. I see, for example, the ability to compare true air speed, ground speed, and indicated airspeed in the UI. Not always useful for gameplay but I can see testing out aircraft and making sure they fly at speeds they should with this system leaving far less doubt than before. Neat!

For more casual users, the displays offer helpers to understand the state of their aircraft, its control surfaces, ammo supply and more. Read about that here!

Q&A summary

Last Friday, 1CGS had a “Talk Show” Q&A session on their Discord server and many of you have wanted to know what we learned from it. I wasn’t able to attend so its been difficult to get a complete summary… until now. 1CGS have summarized some key points themselves in an easy to read Q&A format.

The Q&A has covered quite a few topics. They talk about gamepad support, something that has been in development since 2022, with benefits for new users as well as VR users (in their description) who may prefer to play with that style of control.

They talk about some of the benefits of the new engine from features that we’ve already known about for some time such as massed bomber formations though we now have learned that 1CGS have been able to top the sim out at 120 B-29s in a massed formation with another 20 aircraft involved as well (F-86s and MiG-15s).

There’s also a bit of talk about what the future holds. While they don’t indicate what it is, they do say that their 5 aircraft DLC follow-on is planned for announcement following the launch of IL-2 Series Korea and that the future plans for the sim will come sometime after that. They do appear to shoot down any sort of Vietnam era offering.

Spend some time in the museum

There are only a few places where my smile will be any bigger than in a very good aviation museum and I suspect that Korea’s museum feature will be a very fun place for me (and for many of you).

With detailed overviews of aircraft, ships, vehicles and more, the museum feature appears to offer a fair bit of interactivity with the ability to spin the propellers, open the bomb bays and view the various vehicles from different angles and orientations.

Check out the video above to get a sense of what is on offer.

One response to “IL-2 Korea round-up: Q&A summary, HUD and the museum all detailed”

  1. Looking forward to your review of the sim. Not buying until a read what’s good and what’s bad.
