The 74th Anniversary of the Operation Overlord D-Day Invasion was just a couple of days ago and to help mark that occasion, the developers at Eagle Dynamics have released some new information and updates for DCS: Normandy, DCS: WWII Assets Pack, and DCS: Spitfire IX.
The Spitfire gets more options
This has been on the roadmap for quite a while but only just now has the Spitfire LF.IXc for DCS been given two much requested features.
First, clipped wings are now an option for the iconic aircraft offering improved speed and roll rate, particularly at low altitudes (trading slight reductions in turn and high altitude performance).
Second, bomb loadouts are now an option including long range fuel tanks (called Slipper tanks) enhancing the Spitfire’s operational range. Two 250lb and one 500lb
Normandy map upgrade

Ugra Media, a third party developer working with Eagle Dynamics on the Normandy map, has been busy improving the map with enhanced textures around airfields, sandier textures representing the real world location, concrete airfields at specific historical locations, and a variety of new objects.
We’ve also heard that SpeedTree will eventually be implemented as part of the upgrades to the map although its been a while now since that was last mentioned.
Assets pack being updated too
Over a dozen new units are being added to the WWII Assets Pack including:
- M12 gun motor carriage
- M30 cargo carrier
- M2A1/M3 halftrack
- StuG IV
- Sd.Kfz. 234/2 “Puma”
- Sd.Kfz. 7 artillery tractor
- Sd.Kfz. 251
- Sd.Kfz. 2 Kettenkrad
- Horch staff car
- Barrage balloons
- LCVP Higgins boats
- UK soldier
Some of those new vehicles are included in the above screenshots and on the Eagle Dynamics website.
Additional aircraft are also planned including the C-47, Bf109G-6, and A-20G Havoc.
At some point the price on the Assets Pack is also set to increase as the number of new objects continues to rise. I haven’t heard when that increase in price will happen just yet.
