Harpoon tutorial video for DCS: F/A-18C

The next weapon system to come to the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet will be the AGM-84D Harpoon anti-ship missile. This new system will add yet another layer and another role for the 4th gen multi-role fighter that Eagle Dynamics is currently building towards completion. There’s the briefest mention of the air-to-ground radar that’s worth noting as well.

A flexible anti-ship weapon

The only DCS World anti-ship weapon that I’m in any way familiar with is the RB 04E and RB 15F for the AJS-37 Viggen. The Harpoon has some similar features to the RB series including self destruct (you don’t want an errant missile to hit an unintended target), waypoint following, scan range, etc. The Harpoon can be set to target anything on a given bearing or it can be directed to a target location using the F/A-18C’s air-to-ground radar.

Everything is unsurprisingly setup using the Hornet’s MFDs and multiple programs can be quickly programmed. Check out Matt Wagner’s video for the details.

A-to-G radar

The Hornet’s air to air radar has been in since day one although its seen a lot of changes in functionality from those early days to this point. What we don’t have right now is the air-to-ground functionality and that is a long awaited feature that has been on the Eagle Dynamics roadmap for many years.

Matt Wagner finally mentioned it in this latest video although he says very little except that it is coming later in early access for the DCS: F/A-18C. Hopefully we’ll hear more about that soon!
