Past, Present, and Future X-Plane webinar should be interesting

The Flight Sim Association is hosting their next webinar and it has an interesting guest in the form of X-Plane creator and Laminar Research founder Austin Meyer who will look at the past, the present and… the future of X-Plane. That’s got my attention piqued!

X-Plane next gen?

A screencap from the second video teaser featuring an Airbus A330 that is part of the “new fleet.”

We’ve already seen a couple of teasers from Laminar Research showing off a couple of new features for the future of X-Plane. They have yet to call it X-Plane 12 but it is certain that a 12th iteration or a ‘Next Generation’ title of some sort is in the works.

First we saw the next generation lighting teaser. That showed off the differences in lighting between the current and next generation. Then the new fleet teaser showed off an Airbus A330 that is coming to the sim. We haven’t seen anything else yet but you can bet that there’s more waiting in the wings.

X-Plane of course also has a rich history and I’ve heard Austin Meyer tell that story a few times. If you haven’t heard it, it’s definitely an interesting series of events that lead to the very first X-Plane and all of the progressively newer versions since.

It should be interesting to see what new tidbits of information are worked in throughout this presentation.

Watch it

On Thursday, July 29 at 10 am EDT, Austin and Marty from X-Plane will give the presentation live from AirVenture 2021 in Oshkosh. Here’s the description.

X-Plane is used by more real-world pilots than any other civil flight simulator, according to Navigraph’s 2020 FlightSim Community Survey. The simulator brands itself as the “most realistic”. So how did X-Plane get where it is today? In this session, Marty from X-Plane will be joined by Laminar Research founder Austin Meyer to discuss the state of the simulator. The pair will look at the history of X-Plane and provide teasers about what’s coming next for the popular simulation platform.

that’s a new nugget of info for me – shows the value of Navigraph’s work, too.

I really enjoy watching Austin’s lectures – always something interesting to come out of it, and the cool thing is he’s generally able to show how x-plane is able to closely model the reality of whatever he’s explaining.
