A bunch of new updates for DCS World are coming soon as Eagle Dynamics tackles three big areas of their simulator in the latest DCS World Weekend News Update. The F-16 is getting a bunch of new features while the DCS: AH-64D makes more progress towards launch and FLIR updates are also inbound for DCS. Let’s check them out!
Viper updates

The latter half of this year has been pretty good for DCS: F-16C updates and more are on the way as Eagle Dynamics adds more features to the jet. Among the new features are an improved HSD cursor, new air-to-ground features for the HMD, ECM pod (pictured above), and new semi-auto and automatic countermeasure programs. The last two features are detailed in a short new video released on Thursday.
Flight model finishing touches for AH-64D
Although we know now that the AH-64D is slightly delayed, it does seem that the delay time is being put to good use as Eagle Dynamics continues to refine their flight model for the DCS: AH-64D.
This week we’ve learned that they are continually making improvements and that they’ve made some significant adjustments to the tail rotor characteristics as they attempt to zero in on a realistic feel for the helicopter. Subject matter expects on the AH-64 are apparently giving it very good marks now.
FLIR updates

We’ve been hoping and hearing about updates to DCS World’s FLIR system for years now. The old system had a lot of drawbacks but it was all that was possible for the time that it was introduced. Now, with the latest DCS World engine updates, FLIR is on its way to becoming much more realistic. Here are some of the features that they are talking about.
Infrared signatures vary significantly with changing season, time of day and engine loading. The guns, cannons and engines will also emit contrasting radiant intensities and cooling times will also be part of the overall FLIR improvements, coming soon.
I for one am very impressed that this extreme attention to detail can be done. It’s another major checklist for DCS World upgrades that many of us have been hoping to see and it’s great to hear that this is coming to us soon.
The FLIR improvements look good. I really enjoy the show on the MFDs when things go Boom!

It should make finding things more fun too. Get the tank that’s been firing, not the cold, dead wreck next to it.

YES! I’ve hit far too many destroyed tanks in the past. This will be a big help!

I just hope that having the FLIR more realistic also means that finding hot targets will become more easy. As it is right now, finding targets visually with the FLIR in VR can be pretty tough.

Yeah, this is my hope too! I suspect it will be!
