Microsoft Flight Simulator oriented developer Miltech Simulations (not to be confused with Miltech-5) is working away on several new projects for 2026. They’ve detailed quite a bit in a live stream while also, simultaneously,

Miltech Simulations live stream covered a lot of ground in their 2026 update. They provided overviews of their Mission Hub system for objective play within MSFS 2024, an update on their MH-60, U-2, Supercarrier, CH-53 as well as their plans for PS5 – noting that once the SDK is available to developers that they fully intend to offer PS5 products.

Project Stratosphere and the MBB Bo 105

The MBB Bo 105 is a well known light utility and multi-purpose helicopter produced by Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm. The type served civilian and military roles (with some notable examples equipped with HOT anti-tank missiles). Highly maneuverable and used in a wide range of roles, helicopter fans are sure to be interested in seeing one come to MSFS. Miltech Simulations and Project Stratosphere, who have a website here, are looking to make that happen.

The helicopter is planned for launch in both MSFS 2020 and 2024 and a release date is targeting Q3 of this year.

Sidenote: DCS fans, this is not related to the Bo 105 that is reportedly still being developed by Miltech-5 (unrelated to Miltech Simulations). The last update on that project indicates that it continues to move forward slowly.

  1. I’m just gonna go ahead and say that I’m not a fan of MilTech’s helo flight models, particularly the Seahawk.

And to this day, their Chinook flight model only simulates a single main rotor(!). Though I will say it flies decently.

I’m fairly experienced with heavily SAS/AFCD moderated flight models, as well as non- stabilized FM’s.

there’s a few areas where the Seahawks just ain’t right, and I can’t unsee it…

Hopefully, the stratosphere folks will be a lot more like Taogs Hangar 🤙

MSFS helicopter flight models have generally been a little disappointing for me so far. A few of them have flown reasonably well but everything (that I’ve flown) feels kinda floppy compared to the DCS helicopters. Haven’t flown anything from Taog yet!

I have been meaning to see what Miltech’s mission system is like. That kind of work sounds really interesting!

I think you should! I believe it will make you want to write about the experiences with them.

I have the DCS UH-1H since its release and flown on it quite a bit. The Taog’s one is comparable. It is not 100% there but the skills were almost instantly transferable from DCS.

Have fun if you do. 👍

      2. There are some fairly good helo flight models in MSFS (and some terrible ones!).

Taogs readily come to mind, especially their superb OH-6/H500!

The default Cabri and R66 are good, too!

So it’s not an MSFS problem (as it was with FSX/P3D), it’s just a matter of devs getting to grips with the very complicated and variable helo behaviors.

I think MilTech focused a lot more on the SeaHawk “experience” than the flight model. E.g., if you fly it conservatively, it’s okay. But when you push it (and it is a combat chopper, after all), it stops doing helicopter stuff.

They also skimped a bit on engine/torque/temp simulation.

That said, SnakPak, an IRL US Army Blackhawk instructor pilot, and DCS player, says good things about it, so it’s hardly a disaster

But I’d love to show him the things I’ve observed and get his feedback vs the DCS Mi-8, DCS Chinook (lately), and other heavily stabilized helos like even the Black Shark or DCS AH-64.

heck, even something like the XT AW109 or Bell 412 in XP.

none of those do what the MilTech xH-60 does…

      3. All good commentary! I’ve got to both spend some more helicopter time in MSFS as well as expand my horizons with the variety of options out there.

DCS helicopters have been superb, even the Gazelle is in great shape these days (despite the concerns brewing behind the scenes). Just flying it is immensely fun.

I am still very interested in Miltech’s mission hub because that could offer some very interesting things going forward.

  2. They had an old WWII Lexington carrier that they let wither on the vine, as well as an aerial refueling add-on in the works. These have both disappeared from time and space. I think they figured out they can make a lot more money selling modern military aircraft. I guess I don’t blame them. At least they keep Supercarrier up to date.

I had forgotten about the Lexington!
