We don’t often talk about music in a flight sim but it looks like IL-2 Series Korea will indeed have a soundtrack with some interesting user adjustable options. Here’s what we know.

A soundtrack to go with the action

1C Game Studios looks to be trying something new with a whole soundtrack to be on offer with IL-2 Series Korea. The soundtrack is meant to go beyond the usual main menu music to something that will also play during flight and the action. It’s been a while since I’ve seen that kind of idea expressed in a flight sim… if ever.

The music is being done by Dmitry Silantyev who, as 1CGS report, did work on Rogue Trader, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Armored Warfare, Skyforge, Allods Online, our own project Tales of Old Rus (Skazki Staroy Rusi). I’m not familiar with any of those but there is a YouTube channel with examples.

We’ll get the menu music with early access later this month but the full experience will come later with music playing during various points at the start, middle and end point of the flight.

In short, we aim to create a system that lets you tailor the musical experience to your personal taste. Furthermore, we want to give players the option to place their own tracks into designated folders for specific in-game situations. To do this, a player simply needs to convert any favorite tune into the OGG format using a standard converter and place it in the appropriate folder.

Interesting that you’ll be able to put your own music in place as well.

Though the article doesn’t seem to mention turning it off, I’m sure it’ll be an optional feature. Many of you will only want the hum of the engines for soundtrack. I’m willing to give it a go and see if I like the experience.

For as much as they’re charging they should also have dancers.

    2. I still don’t really understand the gripes on the price for this sim. Right now you can get the base game for $79.99. That’s only $10 more than a ps5 or xbox game for a new flight sim I’d say that’s a pretty good deal in 2026 for what you are getting.

8 flyable aircraft (a few non-flyable as well), huge map included, lots of ground objects and tanks, trucks, trains, campaign, single player missions.

Right now if I buy just the Mig-15 and F-86 plus a map in DCS (mind you a map that doesn’t historically even fit with either of these aircraft, along with no historically accurate ships, tanks, other aircraft) I’m looking at $50 per airplane, and $50 for a map. So $150 right there…which is $10 more than the collectors edition that comes with the DLC in IL-2 Korea which is priced at $139.99 right now.

That comes out to about $10 per flyable airplane which is pretty good value compared to DCS and MSFS24 right now.

I had a bit of sticker shock as well but I think at least some of that is because a lot of the folks that are dedicated to the series are looking more at the full pack (8+5 aircraft). Comparing that to the prior Standard/Premium editions and seeing the price tag tick up without thinking about the total amount of content delivered is initially how it went for me. After the shock was over, more logical thinking prevailed 🙂

  2. Music is not a very much talked about theme in a game, it is often overlooked I believe.

  3. Not sure whether I want to have this on. Usually I prefer to not have music in my games.

However, the composer seems very good, so it might work even for me.

  4. Steam has IL2 Korea coming out in Aug but I thought it was supposed to come out June 26. Did it get changed or am I missing something?

    1. June 26th is Early Access, which is only for those who order on their site. The full game is released in August, for Steam as well.

June 26 as the other folks have been saying for early access. It may be worthwhile for me to write an overview ahead of the release?

      1. Probably a good idea to release an article on the 26th stating that EA has begun and clarifying the situation with regard to the full game release and Steam.

  5. Music? More appropriate to MS2024 Airline Passenger mode, surely? Plus a film for long-haul flights.

    1. The music is supposed to match the situation, so they will have specific music for take-off, combat, etc.

Even that doesn’t have any music… I mean, I supply my own, but the sim itself doesn’t really have that except for the main menu and for discovery flights.

I’m more than willing to give it a try. I’m sure if we don’t like it that we can switch it off and continue on.
