What to do if your DCS World 2.5 doesn’t look right

A lot of users have been commenting in the DCS community that they have installed DCS World 2.5 and it … looks terrible. That’s not how its supposed to be and several users have posted some very helpful tips. I’m reposting them here in-case you need a little help.

The problem is your old settings

Most users in the last 24-48 hours have been updating their DCS installations from their current installs. That’s not a bad thing but it does introduce the possibility that old settings are gumming up the works and making the new and normally gorgeous looking DCS World 2.5 look like something less than 1.5. If your DCS 2.5 install looks all washed out…then this may apply to you.

Here’s some steps that community members are sharing:

  1. Delete C:\Users\[your user name]\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\options.lua file
  2. Delete the contents of the following folders:
    C:\Users\[your username]\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\fxo
    C:\Users\[your username]\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\metashaders
  3. Reset your settings in DCS. Ensure that ‘Deferred shading’ is set to ON. Tweak ‘Gamma’ settings as preferred.

That should get your DCS World 2.5 beta install looking better.

Do a fresh install?

DCS-World_v2.5_1400x2000_v4.jpgIf you feel like you want to start completely fresh (and some do) then as of today you can visit the DCS World download site and download DCS World 2.5 open beta.

The installer download is only 6.9mb but that’s just a shell that then initiates the larger DCS World 2.5 beta download. Depending on the modules you have installed, this could be over 100GB in downloads so make sure you’re ready for the commitment.

Hopefully one of these two options works for you. As with most flight sims, a little extra work is sometimes necessary – especially when making a big jump like DCS World 2.5 represents. Good luck and happy flying!

Thanks! My DCS looks great with 2.5, but I’ll still try deleting the cache folders, just incase.

Let me know how it works out. Most people are saying this makes a big difference if their DCS 2.5 beta is washed out.

Thanks for that Sham, it improve a little bit, its not wastout anymore but my green is very cartoon compare to the video and trailer we seen from Wagg. Your site is the only place I saw where it tell in plain English what to do, to fix it.

A lot of the guys are also saying that the default gamma is too high and that you might need to adjust that. I think the default is around 2. Might benefit from 1.6 or 1.8.

I’m waiting for the full release (due in a week or two) so I’ll be able to offer more advice when I get that version.
