Is that an A6M Zero? New DCS: F4U screenshots!

Following a release last week with a Christmas message, Magnitude 3 have again updated their Facebook page with a new years message and it comes packed with little information but its big on screenshots. We see the F4U quite a bit, the Essex class carrier, Japanese tanks, and … a Zero? Maybe!

New screenshots

A Happy New Year message from Magnitude 3 has dropped plenty of new screenshots all featuring their DCS: F4U Corsair module that has been on development for quite a long time. The screenshots include some great images of the USS Essex as well as some Japanese tanks.

Have a look at some of those shots below.

There’s one more shot I wanted to focus in on. It’s very clearly inserted as a tease with focus of the image up in the top right. There you can see two aircraft. One is clearly an F4U Corsair. The other looks like an A6M Zero – on fire and trailing smoke.

In the past we’ve seen the FW190A-8 used in trailers with Japanese markings, however, the rounded wingtips and overall shape of the aircraft appears to suggest this is not a stand-in. Is it an AI asset? A fully flyable module coming later? Hopefully we’ll learn more in 2023. For now, check out the image below and keep an eye on Magnitude 3’s Facebook page.

They did show a Zero wireframe many months back, so it would certainly make sense to see it right around now.

Also glad they showed the Japanese ground units in the mix – I’m not sure many realize they’re coming, too.

Looks like WW2 Marianas is gonna be a good place to hang out!

Guy over on Reddit did some good old fashioned photo interpretation and it seems extremely likely to be an actual Zero!

Excellent! Yeah it does appear to have the shorter wings of the A6M5 version. Interesting!

It’s been a long time but judging by the excitement I suspect it may well be worth it when it finally comes! 🙂

I would give both kidneys and a lung to have a fully stimulated Zero

    Fantastic!

Only issue I foresee ( sorry to down everyone’s New Year) is that – with DCS being such a stickler for insane levels of detail – can they do any other IJN / IJAF aircraft? Not sure the necessary info exists, though I know there were some user-based research projects at BoX back in the day.

The sim world is crying- out for som Asian Action. I really hope these are the first steps towards WW2 Pacific , Korean, ‘Nam and so forth…

    Crowd funding?

Rudel used to work on an AI Zero and talked about it in their last year podcast, so this one’s not a surprise. What IS a surprise, however, are two Ki-84 Franks visible in the background of “Happy New Year” screen posted by M3 on ED forum. Unless they’re just photoshopped in together with fireworks and are not meant to be a teaser at all.

Praying for an awesome PTO spread over the next few years. A phillipines map, a Solomons/PNG map. Some smaller free maps like Midway.

I do hope we see some Pacific reveals either in the trailer for 2023 and beyond or soon thereafter. Fingers crossed!
